Bad News...

Posted by waffrus - September 25th, 2015

My laptop decided to take an early retirement and apparently no longer has most of my files anymore.

Including... wip game assets.

Buy a new on ;)

Will do, haha.

That's... odd. It deleted some, but not all?
At any rate... *gives you a virtual hug*

I kept most of my files on my desktop, and anything that's not a shortcut to a program is just gone.
e___e

But I can grab/copy almost anything that wasn't on my desktop.
I think I miiiight have found some of the files for a Somewhere Series wip because of the art program I use (apparently it keeps some recent back up things on its own?), but most everything is... essentially deleted at this point ???

*virtual hugs back*

All That Glitters is (probably) totally lost though. TT_________________________TT;;

Edit: At least I uploaded the some of the sprites for ATG on here, so I can work with those, I guess. Sigh...

have you tried to take the hard drive to a computer geek or a god IT tech person to see if they can see what happen and restore your files.

Not yet.

And thats why I keep 5 online backups of my project files.

Lesson learned. And also I should stop storing so many things on my desktop, aha...

you should backup your files, transfer it to a new laptop with a bigger space and you're okay!!

Hoping that's how things will turn out, haha.

That... that totally sucks. :x

My sympathies.

Yes, yes it does.
Thank you.

does your hard disk still working? you transfare your old hard disk to the new laptop if your hard disk still alive !

I'm not sure of anything at this point.
Tried system restores and even a reset (with the keeping my files option), but they... didn't work/finish...
Start menu started going not responsive on and off.
Windows explorer is mad, apparently.
I don't think my files are actually deleted. But they might be in some sort of weird inaccessible limbo (and essentially deleted) because whatever is controlling the desktop is going haywire.
I dunno, anymore.
e____e

Idk, this might be a weird good thing. I tend to get tired of my art if it sits too long unfinished. And then if I don't like the art, I lose motivation. That's basically what happened with Lady of the Castle, oops. So maybe restarting these projects when I finally graduate and get some free time before I get a job will be better.

School was a priority when this problem hit, so I didn't think to grab my art files when I actually had the chance because I hadn't worked on them in a while and also there were three tests this week oh god i just want to sleep now

Man, I know that feeling. Totally sucks. Sorry to hear that

Indeed. Cursing past-me for ineptness. Hopefully future-me will do better haha.

Yeah, it's okay to start fresh, clean slate and all. Maybe put the laptop aside, wait till you get caught up with school and work, then pay someone to have a look, and either fix it, or recover those assets, bookmarks, etc, then reinstall windows. Ambiguity only stresses you out :p You can still come back and tell us how you're doing, you don't need to upload stuff here to be special, besides which, you already are!

Yes, that sounds like... well, a sound plan, lol.
Thanks!

that's too bad i feel ya m8 -hugs- dem feels ..... but dont worry im sure you can get a better one :3 just hang in there everything is going to b A ok :D

Thaaank youuu :D

Thank you, kindly.
I'll be sure to keep backups this time around with new laptop haha.

Yous welcome - always glad to help a fellow artist. Be careful out there!

That's .... odd and unfortunate. I'm no tech whiz but I've never heard of that happening. That's just scary. Still, chin up!
